NO you don’t! The standard SIA certified course would be irrelevant for Contractor jobs, its strictly for UK with no arms drills and no unarmed combat either. While we don’t have a strict set of physical ability standards for every student at our Academy, we encourage candidates to possess a basic level of self-awareness regarding their physical capabilities.
Physical size is not a requirement for close protection operatives, whether in standard environments or high-risk zones. Just like in military or special forces, success in these roles is based on skills, training, and mental resilience rather than physical stature. Effective close protection relies on situational awareness, quick decision-making, communication, and the ability to de-escalate situations. In high-risk zones, training and experience are even more critical, as operatives must be prepared to handle extreme conditions and threats. Whether in normal settings or high-risk areas, it’s the operative’s expertise and readiness, not their size, that ensures the safety of the client.
